Frequently Asked Questions on IRCTC Ticket Refunds

Will I get 100% refund for IRCTC?

You are eligible for a 100% refund only in special cases such as when the train is fully cancelled by Indian Railways, or if the train is running late by more than 3 hours and you choose not to travel. In such scenarios, you can claim a full refund by filing a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) within the prescribed time.

How is a train ticket refund calculated?

Refunds are calculated based on the ticket class, time of cancellation, and applicable cancellation charges. Generally, the earlier you cancel, the higher the refund you receive. The deduction is fixed as per IRCTC rules (for example: ₹240 for AC First Class, ₹200 for AC 2 Tier, ₹180 for AC 3 Tier/CC/3E, ₹120 for Sleeper, and ₹60 for Second Sitting).

How much refund will I get if I cancel a ticket?

If you cancel more than 48 hours before the train’s scheduled departure, only fixed charges are deducted and the rest is refunded. Between 48 to 12 hours, 25% of the fare is deducted. Between 12 to 4 hours, 50% of the fare is deducted. Less than 4 hours or after chart preparation, no refund is granted except in special cases.

How to calculate railway ticket cancellation charges?

Cancellation charges are calculated based on travel class and time of cancellation. For example, if you booked an AC 3 Tier ticket and cancelled 24 hours before departure, 25% of the base fare will be deducted.
